Nancy L. is the enchanting Employee No. 44 of the Fourth Cafe, and one of the Actuaries of the Unknown, alongside her husband. She is a skilled haberdasher, and has been in the coffee business for many years.
Biography
Nancy has one of the longest histories of the CaD, due to her various contracts with Satan, the first of which was completed in 1829. Because of this it is likely she, as with her husband, was born sometime in the 18th Century. She was born as one of thirteen children of Phineas and Winifred Van Benthuysen, though obviously changed her surname when she married No. 26. At some point before her first encounters with the Cafe and Diner, Nancy met her husband, had two children - Manager No. 2 and Ex-No. 44A - and created Langley and Langley: Actuaries of the Unknown, to provide insurance to those in the coffee business.
Nancy's first hands-on experience in slinging coffee came in 2001, when Sophie Grenbelrn recruited her and her husband to the Second Cafe, to use the names "Doppio" and "Espresso", respectively. Her hat-making skills proved invaluable to the CaD, and she remained with the Second Cafe until its closure in 2004, whereupon she returned to actuarial business.
Though the Actuaries were noted to provide insurance to both the Third Cafe and the Palm Beach Cafe in 2017, Nancy's next major interaction with the CaD would come in 2021, when she joined the Fourth Cafe after her daughter went down south.
In the Fourth Cafe, she and her husband have been very useful, especially when it comes to customers who love to dance, and others who prefer orange juice with their meal. In recent months, however, the CaD has been more focused on drama with her husband's family, specifically with his dad Bartholomew.
Personality
Nancy is a kind, motherly figure, who cares a lot about her children, and is very protective of them. She has a tendency to be somewhat more secretive than her husband, but has served the Cafe well.
Ties That Bind
- Is married to Employee No. 26, with whom he has two children: Ex-44A and Manager No. 2. She loves all of them a lot.
- She and her husband are both witches of Satan, and technically still owe him a couple of years of service.
