Zagan… Zagan has been stopped. It was not easy, and he put up one hell of a fight… but I think in the end, he wanted me to win. He wanted me to stop him, to stop the Pale. He made a bad deal, and he knew it, but he was right, better to die in service of the Pale than try and betray it. Though, I am worried about what he said regarding the Pale beginning to stir. I hope he was wrong… but with how hard he fought… I think he’s probably right. In any case, I destroyed what remained of his research and his prototype of a vessel for the Pale. If the Pale is returning, I don’t know if we could stop it… but… well, one foot in front of the other, right?

Zach: I was wondering when you’d arrive, Rune.

Dingane: Rune is gone.

Zach: Nothing is ever truly lost. Somewhere deep inside you, Rune still lives.

Dingane: My entire soul was replaced. There’s nothing left.

Zach: I am not talking about the latent ambitions of the fool, Randall Rune. I am talking about you, Rune. It was always you, after all. Wasn’t it?

Dingane: …

Zach: Mm. Now, are you here to stop me, watch me, or help me?

Dingane: I won’t help you bring back the Pale. I can’t.

Zach: I would never ask you to. The Pale is truly an atrocity, after all. A scourge and affliction that hasn’t touched the world in, well, lifetimes. It is a malevolence almost unthinkable and indescribable at this point. Cruelty beyond cruelty, perversion beyond perversity.

Dingane: Why bring it back then?

Zach: I have no choice. I made a deal with it.

Dingane: So? Why hold your end of the bargain? The Pale can’t—

Zach: That was before, back when the Pale slept at the very bottom of the Black Tide. Now, the Tide is no more. The Pale stirs in the swash at the shores of Eden. It is only a matter of time now. I would rather be on the Pale's good side, if such a thing exists, than to try and work against it… so, here to watch me or here to stop me?

Dingane: I have to stop you, Zagan.

Zach: I certainly hope you can.
