The “fire” is indeed Miss. Carleton. We just received word from the Ramses that Miss. Carleton has been spotted near the theater off of Algiers, where Mrs. Ogeron resides. From what they saw, it isn’t good. And from what we’ve been able to infer from No. 512’s gut feelings, things might be even worse. Mrs. Ogeron is of two minds; one side of her is very loyal to Shamu. True, she can be rather envious of those who live above her, but she has been content to not be washed up in the inescapable tide. At some point, it would seem that Shamu left Mrs. Ogeron in the care of Miss. Meg, a new customer from Quebec.

However, Miss. Carleton is herself related to Mrs. Ogeron, sharing the same mother. Though we don’t know her name, we know that she has a very distinct Pale complexion and extremely Cold nature. This makes Mrs. Ogeron and Miss. Carleton half-siblings—and the other half of Mrs. Ogeron’s mind seems to be swayed by Miss. Carleton and her machinations. From what we have been able to gather, Miss. Carleton wants to free her mother from Shamu’s prison—the Black Tide.

This wouldn’t be her first attempt either—as she has been driven back time and time again by the Coffee Trade in the area. The Laveaus, the Ramses, the Andersons, and even the Blackwoods have gone to great lengths to keep Miss. Carleton from freeing her mother. After their last service with Miss. Carleton, it was assumed she had her tab paid in full—but it would seem her heritage has given her a bottomless tab. We now believe that Carleton is after the same Pearl we are, the Pearl held by Mrs. Ogeron, and seeing as it is a type of key, it might just have the power to open their mother’s cell.

We can’t let that happen.
