Yikes. I guess I should have put two and two together that it was that Evans who ran the fortune teller shop. I guess I should explain a bit because I’m sure Hibiscus won’t. Keep in mind I only really know Hibiscus’ side of the story, and what I actually saw went down myself. Though it was like 12 years ago. It does feel a little weird airing drama from a first-grade sleepover—but… mm… I’ve always gotten a weird vibe from Evans. I’m gonna have Peppermint look more into that. It might end up being relevant. And maybe once Hibiscus reads this, she’ll realize how in the past this all is. Hopefully.
So, my younger sister—the same age as Hibiscus and Evans—had a sleepover in the first grade. Standard first-grade sleepover. I was hanging around a bit but mostly staying out of it. At the time, I figured a first-grade sleepover was too “baby” for a mature 4th grader. Well… things got dark. I’m not sure what happened exactly, but they were watching some scary movie they probably weren’t supposed to be watching, and it got… very real. At first, it was just a few screams mixed with giggles. Then just screams. Then… well, the police showed up. No one was hurt. They all just got too into the movie… probably. Except for Hibiscus. She was totally fine.
Wasn’t scared. Never screamed. And she was honestly as confused as the rest of us as to why things went so south. Anyway, everyone else went home except Hibiscus. And then, I guess Evans called her a freak the next day at school because she didn’t react to the movie. It got to the point that everyone was calling her a freak and avoiding her, even my sister, eventually. Things calmed down as they got older. Obviously. But their roles kind of reversed as Hibiscus ended up being pretty popular, and Evans ended up pretty isolated. It seemed like no one liked hanging out with her for long stretches of time because wherever she went, drama seemed to follow. Intense drama. Unreal drama. Maybe… something especially caffeinated?
