Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: Look at the end of one line, and the start of the next. Combine those two words together. Do any of them spell out anything?
Clue 2: As Complexico said, he had to do the last one backwards - and even then, it's a bit of a stretch.
Clue 3: Pepsin, thelicase, protease. What are all these three?

Answer and Explanation

Answer: Enzyme
Explanation: The not-so-subtle wordplay here is a reference to the three words ‘pepsin’, ‘thelicase’ and ‘protease’, which are all enzymes.

Well, Complexico sort of gave that one away by pointing out that he had to do one of his pairs backward to make it work. Pep+Sin Heli+Case and then, in reverse, Pro+Tease. Pepsin, helicase, and protease are all enzymes. Which, also, yes, are known for unwinding and letting loose. Which just leaves us with the final puzzle to buzz in on. And it’s… not very straightforward, is it? I feel like it’s really two puzzles in one, but then which would be the right answer… not the end but the beginning. When it hits me…

Wait!

Of course! That’s it!

“And that, dear friends and foes, is the end.
But let’s not end on the end, but instead the beginning?
An easy Complexity to win the game—
If it hasn’t hit you yet, when it does, buzz in.
What’s that? You want more?
The second last, and first and foremost things
Any mortal would lust for!
To give you more, surely… that would be… ill-intent.”
