Manager: So, Jules, glad you’re finally ready to admit that the Dark’s a threat we can’t face without you.
Big Guy: I’m not admitting anything. I’m willing to face the facts without letting my emotions cloud my judgement. If the Dark is working with the Cold… that is a serious matter. It does not mean that I forgive you.
Manager: Suppose it wouldn’t. Still—glad to have you back. I know-I know I messed up.
Big Guy: Mm.
Manager: But, you know, I’ve—well, I reckon I’ve got a better grasp on what all this Cafe business is about! See I—
Big Guy: Entered the light.
Manager: Yeah, I—how’d you know?
Big Guy: I heard it too. I’m sure Joy did as well. Tapping into the Eight like that, it’s something we can all feel. We are part of a set, after all. How’d you do it?
Manager: You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.
Big Guy: Try me.
Manager: You might not like it if I told you, either.
Big Guy: What did you do, Jericho?
Manager: …Spoke with the Devil.
Big Guy: The Devil? Where? How?
Manager: The Devil’s Chair in Cassadaga. It’s no rumor, it’s the real deal. He’s able to slip a piece of his being out from beyond the Gates of Hell, just right there.
Big Guy: I see… And what did he have to say?
Manager: Don’t take my word for any of it, choice? When we get back to Florida, I want to take you and Joy there to speak with him yourself. If we actually are some sort of… I don’t know… some sort of reincarnation of the primordial Utopias, then you should be there to talk with him yourself.
Big Guy: Alright. Deal.
Manager: Aces. And, uh, Jules, you sure it’s fine leaving Jackie and her lot to—well, whatever it is you’re up to here?
Big Guy: Yes. It’s been slow. I think they have everything under control.
Manager: Rushes usually follow lulls, and all that.
Big Guy: Mm. But they can handle it themselves. I know they can. Plus, we can ensure that they are up to the challenges they face.
Manager: Right, right, the uh, whatsit, Barista program, yeah?
Big Guy: Yes. We could use the extra help, of course, but it’s more so to help get Jackie’s employees in shape. They’ve faced great challenges before, but none quite like they Dark. Not head-on, anyway.
Manager: Sounds like a plan, then.
Big Guy: …What do you think it means, Jericho?
Manager: Hm?
Big Guy: “Enter the light.” What our piece of the Eight “said” to us.
Manager: I reckon it’s… well, it’s an approximation, isn’t it? In that moment I knew everything it had to offer, and everything clicked into place… but I could never say it again. Could never articulate it, not how it was said to me. To us. Best I could do, best any of us could do, is “enter the light.” Seems a little too on the nose, doesn’t it? We’re up against the Dark and our piece of the Eight just so happens to do with light.
Big Guy: It is what you make of it, isn’t it?
Manager: You want to take another listen, don’t you?
Big Guy: Yes.
Manager: Right—let’s really try and pay attention this time. Maybe we can get a little more of it this time around?
