Cipher | 1 Word

Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: The first number in each 'part' goes from 2 to 8. By right, 9 would also be a possible number, but that just...doesn't apply here.
Clue 2: The second number goes from 1 to 3. What form of 'encoding' - or just typing, really - needs you to press the numbers 2 to 9, 1 to 3 times?
Clue 3: It's just the old phone keypad thing. Press the number 2 three times to get C, and so on.

Answer and Explanation

Answer: Covalent
Explanation: Using Multi-Tap Phone cipher, by pressing that key the directed number of times on the keypad, you get letters which spell out Covalent.

Friends… and family, choice? The family, who else could it’ve been? Jules. Big Guy. He got in touch with Payroll, somehow, and warned her about the Mothman making a Robin Hood ‘n Ian Beale of unexpected flights. Seems like the Moth is ‘eaded West… ‘eaded to the Third Cafe, or the ‘otspot, or… something out that way. We reckon it must be in service of bringing about Ringan Storm. Could be that there’s a hoppin’ pot more of the original Owner’s psychic residue back where he spent a good chunk of his nickels and dimes. ‘Course, there’s also Baltimore and Detroit, which I wouldn’t be surprised if Mothman made stops there, too.

…Damn. Sorry. I can’t do the whole… Just… Jules. He really reached out to us, huh? Reckon he ended up with the Third Cafe. Good for him. They could use his help, his expertise. And I wouldn’t suppose he’s fully over what went down with the Chupacabra. I can’t fault him for that. It was proper out of line, and it wasn’t what a Cafe’s about. I get that now. I… I hear it. I’ve been hearing it. Thanks to the Devil, anyhow. ‘Course, I can only hear an eighth of it all said and done, but an eighth of it is still more than enough to get the right idea. We’ve got a sacred duty. We make and serve the best damn coffee we can. Sure, it seems small, but the most important things are ultimately the smallest.

We can’t let Pleasant mess with the Third Cafe. We can’t. They’re still wet behind the ears—and I know Pleasant would take advantage of that. They don’t even know they’re in his crosshairs right now. I’m taking the New Guy with me, and we’re going to go pay Pleasant a visit. We’re going to stop him well before he can muck about in California. I don’t want Jules to have to deal with our mess—with the Dark. I can do that much for him, can’t I? Plus, a little time on the road’ll be good for the New Guy. He took quite the beating… ‘course, he heals faster than any of us. But I know how much that little bugger loves to travel.
