It seems like the Black-Veins in New Jersey won’t be much of a problem after all. Thankfully they aren’t exactly friendly, but they might be family-like. Cassius, Asphodel, and Drusilla are the three Black-Vein Vampires who fled the edge of the Necropolis to escape the chaos of war. How they ended up here is still a bit of a mystery, though it actually answers some questions we already had.
Here’s what we know: the three of them fled into the Everdark, unable to take refuge in the Necropolis because of the fear their kind invokes and the harsh light of the city. In their escape, they stumbled upon a door… to the Flipside. To New Jersey.
Well—not exactly New Jersey. None of them remember the exact location the door led to, only that it was somewhere near Old Bridge, New Jersey. Their first night in the Flipside was apparently pretty chaotic, and they had to scramble to find shelter before sunrise. Based on the calculations No. 62 and I have worked out, at their top speed and considering the time of night they arrived, the door they used could be anywhere within a 50-mile radius.
That radius covers about a quarter of Long Island, which might help us narrow down where the Achegloom opened. It gives us another point on the map. Alongside the 40 miles from Collyer Brother’s Park, there’s a decent overlap between the two areas. At the very least, we can rule out anything east of Kings Park.
Aside from the geographical clues, the Black-Veins also shared some useful information with No. 161 and No. 53 about the Morbid King and his assault on the Necropolis. Specifically, the Morbid King had tried to recruit the Black-Veins to his cause. Some of their family were eager to join in the destruction of Asmodeus, but Cassius, Drusilla, and Asphodel wanted no part in worsening their already grim afterlife.
