Great. Just great. Well—after checking in with some sources, consulting our texts, and oh, I don't know, looking outside the window… it's pretty clear what went down last Friday. Umbra brought a nightmare to life: the Grim Ghost Beast, Grendel. An ancient, ugly, truly monstrous Blooded Demon who was slain (historically by Beowulf, realistically by… someone. Maybe Beowulf, I don't know), and then his corpse was laid to rest and restrained in a veil between the Flipside and Mayda. That hidden veil was then opened by the Nuckelavee. Then Umbra did something… I’m not sure what exactly, but the outcome was clear. Umbra turned Grendel into a Shadowfolk like himself. But… not quite. Not human enough to be a Shadowfolk… more like a Shadowbeast.
Ugh. It all happened so fast. In a snap, the Nuckelavee and Umbra somehow shattered the ocean itself, revealing Grendel’s hidden prison and tomb. And then, the next thing I knew, Umbra had turned Grendel into a shadow, and Leviathan swooped the Nuckelavee back up. Too bad Leviathan couldn’t have also swept Umbra up. It’s like he has a sick talent for twisting strength into his special brand of darkness. And the worst part? He hasn't been keeping to the shadows. He’s been letting his new Shadowbeast run amok around Palm Beach. Tourists have been running, screaming—ugh, it’s been total chaos. I wish #53 was still around because I have no idea how to spin any of this.
So, yeah, Palm Beach is pretty much in shambles right now. We’ve been trying to regroup the best we can, but it’s hard when you’re constantly picking up the pieces of a nightmare no one could’ve seen coming. Beyond the raw strength of Grendel—why would Umbra go through all the trouble of resurrecting him and turning him into a semi-corporeal shadow creature? How does that get him any closer to finding his precious little book? New Guy and Manager are trying to find answers where they can, and H.R. is seeing if the cards would be so kind as to give us a little clue. Just another day in paradise, right?
