Me and 17 are still waiting on Mr. Hyer’s “gift.” Whatever that turns out to be. It’s actually been a while since I’ve been here. Almost like, what, 16ish years? We moved when I was about 13 or so. My mom said she didn’t feel safe but never said why. Having now spent a few weeks at the Hotbed, I kinda get it. She never said anything about, you know, customers, but I can’t imagine she didn’t know about them. The same goes for my grandma, who we’re staying with. She doesn’t seem like she knows about our business, but having lived here her whole life, she must’ve heard at least one thing go bump in the night.
Me and 17 have just been staring out the window most nights, customer-spotting. We’ve seen at least 3 or 4 each night. And, of course, no sign of Mr. Hyer. At least he’s hard to miss, what with his big glowing eyes. Maybe he’s waiting for Mrs. Pleasant to arrive? Or, I guess, depart for that matter. It seems like he doesn’t want to be around Pleasant, and I can’t blame him. She sounds like a pretty rough customer, from what I’ve read.
I guess she was locked up for a while by the original Cafe and Diner but then broke out. How she broke out or even when she broke out isn’t clear. But as far as we can tell, she’s been keeping herself cozy in Ottawa up until now. Looking over what reports remain from the original Cafe and Diner, it seems like Pleasant has always been inspired by the moon. So a blood moon being the thing to tempt her to fly in through Hotbed makes sense. Well, it would make sense, except Mr. Hyer said it was unrelated. Or did he mean that the Blood Moon was unrelated to her escape? I’ll have to reread that transcript again. At least it gives me a good excuse to listen to some music, haha.
