We held our ground. We held the hell out of our ground. It was a full-on brawl, but we stood firm. New Guy’s intel proved spot on, and early this morning, Umbra, Pleasant, Aka, Florida, and a still incomplete Aplut descended upon the Cafe. Aplut—Ringan Storm—was the worst of them, even in this sorry state. He, or she, or it radiated raw psychonautic energy, barely held together by whatever dark magic Umbra could muster. It was like staring into the eye of a storm of pure hellfire—I swear I felt the air itself cracking around it.
The battle started with the Mothman swooping in, trying to throw out a blanket panic hypnosis on us. Thankfully, the Manager was quick on his feet and had prepared to neutralize the worst of Mothman’s psychosis in advance. Meanwhile, I had my hands full with Redman. He’s—well… he’s the same as ever. Pulling me around by bloodshot eye. Luckily, it’s starting to become his weakness, I think—he’s far too comfortable controlling me, to the point he’s getting sloppy with it. I wasn’t able to shake him or anything, but New Guy with a shotgun is a surprisingly effective deterrent for rude-ass Boogiemen. Side note: when, where, and why did the New Guy learn to shoot so well?
Then, there was Robbie. Nasty little freak. He honestly gave us more trouble than I thought he would. He kept slipping through our defenses, putting H.R. on the offensive. Apparently, Robert can extend his shade powers to control other objects temporarily. But, again, turns out it’s easy to snap that control with a 12-gauge. Of course, we’ve got some cleanup to do—but you really gotta give it to the little guy, he knows how to make things go splat. Well, that, and the Manager enchanted the shotgun beforehand to be a bit more potent against magical targets.
…Then there was Ringan. Or, what was there of Ringan. The incompleteness of its form made it impossible to predict. But that unpredictability was also its weakness—instability. Amongst the chaos, I was able to grab the Scrying Mirror from Umbra long enough to dispel Ringan in a blaze of dark light. For now, at least. Then I smashed that stupid disk—Umbra grabbed one half, but we still have the other piece of it. After that, the Dark left—defeated, I think. At least, after two rounds of inventorying, we haven’t found any artifacts or trinkets missing. I think the Manager was right—they wanted us to run, they wanted access to something we have here, but… what?
We’ve got some time to regroup, patch up the holes in the walls, and prepare for whatever might come next.
