RECEIPT DATE: 10 17 1988
MANAGER TITLE: EIGHT
RECEIPT NOTES:
Man, I just can’t get West Virginia out of my mind, y’know? That’s the Big Picture. What’s out there. Way, way out there. Feel me? There’s something seriously sinister going on in that state and the areas around it. I know, I know—I said I’d hold off on fixating on the West Virginia situation and that it’s “not critical.” But it’s home, after all, and where else is one’s heart at? :) I’ve still got plenty of time to dig into the local scene here. And hey, who knows? Maybe if we can crack what’s going on in my hometown, I can help figure out what’s happening in yours… though, y’know, Baltimore, New Orleans, and the mighty Morningstar aren’t exactly Long Beach either.
So… West Virginia. Home to Sasquatches, Veggiemen, Yahoos, Devil Dogs, Boogers, Oguas, Hellhounds, Graftons, Flatwoods, Gumhills, Thunderbirds, and… of course, the Mothman. Among countless others. Did you know I’ve faced off with the Mothman before? Yeah, it’s true. That’s how I got into this whole caffeinated scene. See, I was a young kid—maybe just a bit older than Baltimore was when he lost his parents to the Nain Rouge.
Anyway, Mothman came back to Point Pleasant, trying to tear the place down all over again. I still don’t know why—but I stopped him. In the process, I was knocking on death’s door, his claws right up in my neck. And as I felt my life dripping down to my socks, I felt it. I saw it. Everything clicked into place. Everything became clear. I saw what lies on the other side of the Otherside. Then, I woke up six months later in St. Francis, somehow still alive.
Now—I think it’s a little egotistical to claim I know everything, right? :) It’s been a long time since I “died,” and most of what I saw then has slipped away. But I still hear it, hummin’ in my ears and dancin’ in my peripheral vision. The Universe. The Big Picture. But you know what’s still missing from that “Big Picture?” West Virginia. Point Pleasant. Why the Mothman and so many others are fixated on that spot… I’ve got a few ideas, though I get the sense I should run them by Baltz first. Don’t want to say anything too drastic, after all.
