Ran into an old friend of ours, Mrs. Jejune. Last I recall, we locked that new-age nutcase back in the Teal. I’m guessing whatever’s gone haywire with the boundary lines let him slip out. He gave his usual cryptic spiel—though it sounds like he’s headed back to San Fran to set up shop again. We’ll probably need to shove him back into the Between as soon as possible as the Department doesn’t deal with his kind. As if we didn’t have enough on our plates… Caramel, if you don’t mind, try to intercept him on the 16th Floor, would you?

S.O.T.

Mrs. Jejune: Ah, [Peppermint]. How... quaint, to find you here, amidst the squalor of Sacramento, bathed in the lunar light of a waning crescent—

Peppermint: Ah! Shit! Where’d you come from?

Mrs. Jejune: Watching Lucifer’s little cabal, hmm? Hmph. A theater of the banal, wouldn’t you agree?

Peppermint: Man! Get down! I’m trying to stake out here.

[Peppermint pulled Mrs. Jejune to the ground.]

Mrs. Jejune: Ha! This—this spectacle of delusion—it’s nothing more than a passing fancy to me, you know. Right in my backyard—look at how he draws his helpless flock in!

[Mrs. Jejune leaned in close, gripping Peppermint’s shoulder.]

Mrs. Jejune: There are… forces. Operating on a higher frequency. Winding. Coiling. Like serpents in the underbrush. And Lucifer? He’s but one head of the hydra whose body you have yet to behold. Do you understand, [Peppermint]?

Peppermint: What the hell are you talking about?

Mrs. Jejune: Haha! I suppose you wouldn’t understand, would you? You haven’t even noticed the cosmic shattering we’ve all undergone. You know me, yes?

Peppermint: Hard to forget your creepy-ass cult.

Mrs. Jejune: Hardly a cult. A research group of like-minded individuals—but that’s beside the point. You remember me—I remember you—but [Peppermint]… we’ve never met. Yet we have. And I shouldn’t be here. But here I am.

Peppermint: Cut the socio-whatever. What’s your point?

Mrs. Jejune: My associate—he knows about things like this. “Reboots,” he calls them. A funny word, no? Last time he witnessed a reboot on this scale, an entire Otherworld sprang to life from nothing but the idle dreams of a sleeping Prince. Those dreams became reality. The thin line between fiction and fact blurred beyond repair. And now… the same has happened, but this time, Between.

Peppermint: Speaking of the “Between,” aren’t you supposed to be back in the Teal where you belong?

Mrs. Jejune: The Teal is not where I belong, [Peppermint]. No. I belong in San Francisco. I have work to do. I just wanted to stop by and check out my competition. Until we meet again—at the crossroads of certainty and ambiguity.

[Mrs. Jejune exited the CaDCom Transcription range.]
