This is like no cryptid I’ve ever seen before. I mean, it is a cryptid, right? Or… it’s a pseudo-cryptid…? I’m not really sure, to be honest. I’ve been doing some research with #71 into where the weather of the Hauntaurskald comes from, assuming this is the same sort of thing found in the Hauntaurskald, yeah? So far, most texts on the subject lean vague and esoteric rather than matter-of-fact or scientific. It's not really a surprise given the topic, but usually, there are at least one or two scientific studies done on any given Otherside subject. Maybe there is, and #71 just doesn’t have a book on the matter.
Anyway, from what we gathered, weather is not typically natural to the Hauntaurskald. All “weather” of what was once the singular Skald was left with the Esterskald, which has way more scientific texts on the subject, by the way. So, what, or who causes the various hellish storms to rage across the Plane of Wrath? Well, it would seem the most obvious answer is Satan himself. In an effort to make his unending war games in the crucible of Pandemonium more interesting, Satan sends out various “hazards” throughout the various Campaign seasons. One of which is known as “Blood Rain” or “Red Rain.”
Unfortunately, that’s where our research comes to an end. While the H.H.H. Almanac does mention Blood/Red Rain as a rare weather phenomenon that burns and melts the flesh of demons… that’s all it says of the subject. Seeing as it isn’t mentioned in any of the other scant texts, we have the subject we believe that it must be a fairly rare hazard for Satan to conjure, or it’s one he stopped using since the torturous H.H.H. Almanac was penned. So… earlier, I mentioned that it is a sort of “pseudo-cryptid,” yeah? Well, we believe that all of the weather conjured for the Hauntaurskald by Satan are sort of… “extensions” of himself or the Plane. Kinda… gross… if this is literally his blood spraying everywhere.
