Just got the notebook back from No. 62. After rerunning the scans, he’s confirmed that the Char Man’s blood signature is no longer on the book leaving only 10 blood signatures. I figured the least I could do was try and do a reading to interpret the 10 remaining signatures, though something strange happened. I didn’t get 10 readings. I got 13. Some of the visions were very explicit, others less so, and some were entirely shrouded still. In any case, this is what the notebook’s energy revealed to me.
First, and the clearest of the thirteen: Born in Lake Lery off the Mississippi, a drowned devil man of Algiers known to us as the Sunkenman.
Second, and also quite clear: A feral beast of Timberlane and Pontchartrain, bound in terms of Lenten vows, none other than the Esterskaldian Boogieman known as the Rougarou.
Third, and unmistakable now: A horrid demon of charred and smoldering flesh, the Char Man of Ojai.
Fourth: A face obscured in darkened night atop a long-lost pagan temple, blood dripping from its stones.
Fifth: A struggling squirming sack slung across the shoulders of an ancient authoritarian.
Sixth: Not man nor beast but a writhing wriggling mass who guards the forbidden berries of the undying.
Seventh: A creature who slips through cracks and crevices.
Eighth: A friendly face of merry times, though deep inside, a killer lies.
Ninth, and beginning to become vaguer: A demon who waits across a bridge
Tenth: A child made of moss and twig.
Eleventh: Only the feeling of fear.
Twelfth: A dark shadow.
Thirteenth: The first and last.
Sorry, it gets like, “vague,” towards the end. As I went deeper and deeper into the psychic energy of the notebook, it became harder and harder to get a clear picture. Though, with thirteen psychic energies, I think it’s more than safe to say these are the “thirteen regents” as foretold by Mrs. Morrison in New Orleans. And considering we know three of them are dead and now the book is giving off only 10 blood signatures, they are somehow tied to this book. Which, more or less, solves the mystery. This is Satan’s book of regents. And from what I could feel and what we know, all 13 regents are boogiemen. So, for whatever reason, these 13 boogiemen had to sign their names again in this notebook to become Satan’s regents. And if Ojai is to be believed, the regents’ sole purpose is to resurrect Satan through blood and blood alone. For now, I’d say that’s all we really need to know. We need to be on high alert for the remaining 10 boogiemen. And from my readings, we at least have a few leads we can go off of.
