MR. HERRICK CASE NO. 2

Finally! M.J. and I were able to find the Cafe’s old file on the Jackalope. It was under the Beelzebub section for future reference. It’s still not a lot to go on, as most of the information links to prior receipts that we can’t access. But the general bio of the Jackalope is still somewhat useful. The general details match up to what I’d expect, at least. A Jackalope is a small rabbit-like cryptid that has a prominent pair of antlers. They are often found in the Flipside due to their natural propensity to hop unwittingly into boundary lines.

Now, for the more interesting parts… Apparently, Jackalopes are prized creatures in the Otherside due to their inherent luckiness. They are among some of the luckiest creatures in the Otherside. Having one for a pet practically sets you up in the afterlife. Which does make them fairly difficult to actually capture, as their natural luck keeps them out of all but the trickiest of traps. Their luck is also tied to them being alive. A dead Jackalope only brings about ill fortune and mayhem. The Old Cafe bio on them mentions demons tricking humans by giving them “lucky” Jackalope feet.

Other than their lucky nature, it doesn’t seem like Jackalopes have any other noteworthy powers. Or, at least, nothing that would make capturing one particularly dangerous. So, we just need to think up a trap that the Jackalope can’t luck its way out of. Probably easier said than done, huh? I’ll do some brainstorming with Amber and see what we can come up with. It’s not like we’re in a huge rush or anything. I’m sure the Duphon, uh, what was his name again? Paul? Right? He didn’t seem to be in a huge rush to get the three of them back to the Otherside.
