Weed killer did the trick. Worked really well, actually. Better than expected. We only did one test spray on its outer shell, and the whole thing just sort of… collapsed. Melted. The protodemon's shell withered up and then turned into a thick black sludge, like something right out of the Everdark. And then… the screams. Really, really awful screams. The thing—the protodemon—it was pleading that it would do better, that it would be better, that it wouldn't scare away the butterflies and rabbits anymore. And then… it was gone.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Protodemons—hell, I don't even really know what they are—but that… was *haunting*. It was begging with such an innocent, almost child-like voice to not die. And, to be clear, we weren't… we didn't expect one spray of weed killer to work that well. We thought it might have done some superficial damage or just irritate the protodemon, but… to just kill it… like it's just another weed. And so violently, too. I'm not sure if we just got lucky with our protodemon being "plant-like," but… do you think it'd work on the other protodemons out there? We were using Mecoprop, for what it's worth.

Oh, and speaking of weeds and whatnot—when the protodemon sort of melted away into that black sludge when all that goop collapsed onto the ground, it sent up a huge cloud of… some kind of spores. Little black puff balls. They didn't land, though; they just sort of evaporated into the air. Poof. Do you know what it reminded me of? Dandelions. Like when you blow on one of the puffy ones—just little seeds everywhere. We're going to watch the area in case those spores cause problems down the road, but I think Zerep's been paid in full.
