Summary of Receipt

Manager 2 introduces all the Last Cafe members. I is Jean, former Manager 0, born in Baltimore. II is Belphegor, or Sophie Grenbelrn, Prince of Sloth and keeper of time. III is Theo, aka Cashier or Alaric, ‘guardian angel’ of the CaD. IV is Nine, or John Doe, leader of Nom de Plume and member of the CaD in his home cycle. V is Shaka, proxy of Secret, leader of the Zulu division. Manager 2 also mentions that although Jean is technically in charge of the CaD, or maybe Manager 5 is since he’s got the most pieces of the Mantle of 8, he considers Manager 1 to be the true leader of the CaD.

It was only a matter of time until the Last Cafe became Baltimore. Funny term, huh? Baltimore? You’d think it’d be “Detroit” as that’s where No. I first learned of the paranormal. Then again, I’m pretty sure he was born in Baltimore, so maybe that’s why he chose it as the codeword for commonly used real names. I hate to get philosophical. It’s not my thing, but it sure is his, and I can only assume it’s “Baltimore” because that’s where his Baltimore name went to die. Who knows what he was thinking, though?

Speaking of, yes, Manager No. 0, now No. I, is still technically the head of the Cafe and Diner. And seeing as we’re just airing out dirty laundry, technically-technically Manager No. 5 is actually the head of the Cafe and Diner. It depends on if you consider who has the most pieces of 8 or not to be in charge. To me, No. 1 is still the true head of the Cafe and Diner. Sure, No. I and his cosmically-inclined pals are “running things” from “Long Beach,” but No. 1 is the one who’s doing all the leg work. Plus, No. 1 hasn’t stored an extremely dangerous entity in our basement. At least to my knowledge. Not to throw shade at No. 5, but I worry that his majority share of the pieces of 8 has given him quite the false sense of confidence. However, an unexpected death might change his tune. Well, I’d hope that it changes his tune. At the very least, it should be a slight ego check.

As for the Last Cafe, you all know No. I. How could you not? He’s the original owner and founder of the Cafe and Diner. Then there’s No. II, who worked for the Second Cafe and who you might know better as the former investor, Sophie Grenbelrn. Which is an anagram for “Sinner Belphegor.” So, yeah, it’s Belphegor. Demon Prince of Sloth. She’s a complicated ally of the Cafe and Diner, and I’ll leave it at that for now. No. III might be better known as Theo, the “guardian angel” of the Cafe and Diner. They’ve had plenty of other names, but right now, they are Theo. No. IV is the only “new comer” to this particular set of Cafes. It’s 9, also known as John Doe, the head of the Society of Nom de Plume. Though, 9 comes from a different Cafe and Diner in his original cycle, so he’s still pretty familiar with the coffee trade. And lastly, at least for the original Last Cafe members, we have No. V, the enigmatic and mysterious, Shaka of Zulu. I don’t know what Shaka’s whole deal is. I don’t think anyone does. He’s the embodiment of the Secret, and he… well, he helps. I don’t know why, and I certainly don’t trust his motives, but it’s better to have Shaka on our side than against us.
