MR. PEREZ CASE NO. *

Well, now I’m just confused. We did it. We seriously did it. We got the chupacabra home! …until we didn’t? Okay, let me back up a bit. So, me and S.W. took our very good boy to the park under the cover of night. Originally, I wanted to put a fur coat over him to make him look more dog-like and less lizard-y. That would’ve been a great plan, but then I thought, eh, fur coats are expensive and unethical. I know, I know, faux-fur is in, but then it feels like it’d be too silly trying to hide a chupacabra under faux-fur. You’d need the real deal for it to be convincing, right?

Anyway, waiting until it was dark out was much simpler. Sometimes, a plan doesn’t need to be elaborate to be effective, though it is a lot less fun. So, we had the chupacabra on a leash and had him sniff around the park a bit. S.W. was right; he definitely seems to be looking for something, but we aren’t sure what. Is it possible that chupacabras can smell boundary lines? Maaaaybe not. If we went everywhere Mr. Perez wanted to go, he would’ve never gone home. We spent most of our time up in the top part of the park near 63rd Street. But we wanted to be thorough, so we took him all the way down toward the bridge, and then—WHOOSH. He gone.

Then… whoosh? He back? What?? Like, he fully disappeared, slipped right back into the Otherside from what we could tell, but then just as we were leaving, we heard a little yip yap, and there he was, tail wagging and all. At least he didn’t try to run from us or anything. In fact, I think he’s starting to like us! He is a very good doggo, after all. So, we thought there must be something up, right? We spent a good few HOURS checking and rechecking the spot where we think the tear in the boundary lines is. Nothing out of the ordinary. So, we sent him home again—and… then a few minutes later… he popped right back out. But I could swear I heard a… whistle coming from the trees? In any case, the sun started to rise, so we’ll have to check things out again tomorrow night.
