CAFE RECEIPT
RECEIPT NUMBER: ACIB05
RECEIPT DATE: 9 10 19XX
MANAGER TITLE: MON AMOUR
RECEIPT NOTES:
Ugh. Of course. Of course he’d be waiting for us. We managed to lure the Caesimagese Chupacabra with all sorts of creature comforts, and just as I opened the portal to send him back to the Otherside… there was my brother, seemingly waiting for us. Lovely. At least we finally got to test the transcription feature on mon amour’s CaDCom devices. With the Data Core from my Plane, it can transcribe everything it hears within a certain range—it even records some actions! A wonderfully smart little device, really.
Mammon: [Baltimore].
Baltimore: Mammon.
Mon Amour: Ugh. Mammon. Wait, Have… Have you two met?
Mammon: Met? Oh no. I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure. I must’ve been thinking of some other man, who looks just like him. So, this is your… what is he, your slave?
Mon Amour: He’s my partner.
Mammon: Partner? You know he’s a human, right, Lucy? You are a human aren’t you, [Baltimore]?
Baltimore: Flesh and blood.
Mammon: Flesh and blood—how cute. How can you consider a human a “partner,” Lucy? I certainly wouldn’t. I’m far above making deals with such insignificant specks of flesh and blood. Don’t you agree, [Baltimore]? You’d never make a deal with a Prince, right?
Baltimore: Is there some way we can help you, Lord Mammon, Prince of Greed?
Mammon: Ah—some reverence. That’s more like it, flesh and blood. Yeah, actually, you can. What the hell do you two think you’re doing opening portals into my Plane? Trying to pull a fast one on me? So early into the game?
Mon Amour: …Game?
Mammon: Life’s a game, Lucy, learn to play it. Now answer the question, flesh and blood.
[Mammon pointed his golden scepter at Baltimore’s neck.]
Baltimore: We were just returning this.
[Baltimore held up the Chupacabra and Mammon dropped his scepter.]
Mammon: Oh! Enterprise! What are you doing in the dirty, filthy Flipside?
[Mammon retrieved the Chupacabra holding it like a human infant.]
Baltimore: Must’ve slipped through a crack in the boundary lines. Happens with Chupacabras, due to their freedom of movement. We just wanted to send it back to where it belongs.
Mammon: It? Enterprise is a she, flesh and blood. And what a precious thing she is! You must’ve worried Liquidity and Mutualization absolutely sick! You know better than to run off like that, naughty girl. Well, I owe my thanks to the Cafe and Diner, then. Always nice to see an immediate return—though next time, call ahead. I have far too many valuables stored within my Plane to let riffraff such as you open portals to it willy-nilly.
[Mammon gave a half-hearted bow and closed the portal to Infernus.]
Mon Amour: …Good to see you too.
Baltimore: He’s a piece of work, huh?
Mon Amour: Yeah—wait… did he say, “Cafe and Diner?”
Baltimore: Hm?
Mon Amour: We haven’t even opened yet.
Baltimore: Oh. You’re right… Hm. Word must travel fast.
Mon Amour: Dangerously fast.
Baltimore: Well, forget him for a moment mon amour, because do you know what we have just done?
Mon Amour: Gave my brother one of his crusty ankle biters back?
Baltimore: Yes, but more importantly, we have successfully served our first customer! And for that, I believe I owe you and my most trusted associate a late-night diner trip, on me. We should celebrate over coffee.
