Clue 1: Have you solved C-TBS03? You might want to do that first.
Clue 2: As in 'fighting', and a smaller version.
Clue 3: 'Bout' and 'Branch'. What's the term for a 'bout of combat'? What's a 'downsized branch'?

Answer and Explanation

Answer: Matchstick
Explanation: Untangling the clue phrase as in C-TBS03 gives “Bout Branch”. A bout can be a fight, or a match, and a branch can be a stick. Therefore, matchstick.

I'd say that went rather smoothly, effortlessly, and, well, swimmingly. I hope that Hibiscus didn't overpay for the Warlock's services, but I suspect it won't be long until we find out what exactly was exchanged. And while it makes me… nervous… that, that burning star of a Magician has a negative match in his possession now, it is probably for the best if he intends to keep messing around with magical flames. At the same time, I'm worried his curiosity will get the best of him, and he'll end up striking it just to see what happens.

S.O.T.

Magician: Woah!! You guys really came back!!

Peppermint: Yeah, man, told ya we'd be back. Just had to settle on a price with—didn't catch your name—

Warlock: Never gave one.

Peppermint: —With this lovely lady and her even lovelier patron. Speakin' of, both of ya happy?

Warlock: Mm-hm.

Peppermint: Good, good. So… do ya thing.

Magician: …Patron? Hang on, are you a Warlock?

Warlock: Yep. You?

Magician: No, no, just a Magician.

Warlock: Couldn't get a pact?

Magician: I could if I wanted to, but I'd rather keep my magic to myself, thank-you-very-much!

Warlock: Couldn't get a pact.

Magician: Is her being rude part of her payment?

[Peppermint cocked an eyebrow at the Warlock.]

Warlock: Fine, fine, there'll be time for the ole talk later. Let's put out your flames, kid.

[The Warlock took a matchstick from behind her ear, then after saying an incantation, the ardent flames that engulfed the Magician swirled into the matchstick, leaving only a puff of white odorless smoke.]

Magician: WOAH!! How'd you do that?!

Warlock: You play with fire a lot?

Magician: I mean… on occasion, I've been known to, uhm, tinker.

[The Warlock tossed the negative matchstick to the Magician]

Warlock: Just never strike it, yeah? Big mess if you do.

Magician: I can keep it? Seriously??

Matcha: It's not like you to just give things away. What's the catch?

Warlock: Hm? Catch? Oh—not really a catch. I'd just like it back when he's done with it.

Magician: Whenzzat?

Warlock: I'm guessing you'll figure out how to not set yourself or others on fire eventually, yeah? That's when I'd like it back.

Magician: Okay! But, wait, how will I find you? Or… will you find me?

[The Warlock smiled coyly at Peppermint and Matcha]

Warlock: I've got a feeling you'll know where to find me, scene?
