Puzzle

Er, still burning in the open air.”
Matcha Trivia | 2 Word

Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: What burns and was (technically, still is) spelt with an 'er'?
Clue 2: Any other words that can be spelt either as -re or -er?
Clue 3: An open-air something-re.

Answer and Explanation

Answer: Fiery Theatre
Explanation: 'Er, still burning' is a reference to the Middle English word 'Fier' (meaning Fire), and more specifically the word 'Fiery' which still preserves that spelling. The other half of the puzzle, 'open air', is a reference to another word that can be spelt either with -re or -er, Theatre (as in 'open-air theatre').

### [Date | Jan-12-24] [Barista | Matcha] [Subject | Business as Usual] [File Reference | C-ABF01]

Well, that was as intense, strained, and, dare I say, ardent as expected. I’m more than glad Lavender tagged along to get a reading on how our Warlock’s Tanty was feeling from moment to moment. Interestingly enough, or perhaps entirely expected from a pacted Warlock, Lavender was able to sense both of their emotions simultaneously. As for how our Warlock’s patron felt upon being asked for help… I’m not sure if this bodes well or ill for us, but Lavender was positive she was feeling—amused.

While neither Lavender nor I could discern if the amusement was benevolent or not, the good(?) news is that the Warlock and her patron agreed to help us put out the Magician’s flames. Naturally, they won’t work for free, but she’ll only discuss payment with our boss—Hibiscus. Who, as far as I can tell, was entirely on board with reaching out to this Warlock and her patron for help. Hopefully, they can reach an amicable payment, and knowing this Warlock personally… it’s probably going to involve some form of phlebotomy.

Peppermint has gone ahead and told the Magician that we’ll be by tomorrow morning to extinguish his flames if negotiations go well with Hibiscus and the Warlock’s patron. I wonder if they’ll end up meeting face-to-face…? If so, I wish Hibiscus the best. Having only spoken to this Warlock’s Tanty once or twice in passing, it is not a pleasant experience. To me, it always felt like I was a mouse trying to squeak my way through small talk with a lioness during a brush fire. There are only so many pleasantries and pacifications you can offer before the lioness grows bored and decides to swallow you whole or leave you to perish in the flames.
