ABRIDGED HISTORY CASE NO. 4

I do apologize for leaving things off on another “cliffhanger.” Admittedly, I was not as present for the events that transpired once Satan came to Long Beach. I had to get in touch with a few old allies of the Cafe and Diner for the specifics as I did not want to misrepresent what had transpired in the Cafe’s past—hopefully, so we do not repeat their shortcomings. It was the Cafe’s war against Satan and his minions that led to its eventual (inevitable?) downfall. But, of course, allow me to start at the beginning of the end.

In August of 1995, Satan arrived in Long Beach, California, where he took the form of a catholic priest. He then got to work setting up the Open Doors of St. Alphonsus Rodiguez Church as his primary base of operations. Satan brought with him three extremely dangerous customers—Mrs. Pleasant, Mrs. Aka, and Mrs. Umbra. Together, the four schemed to enact a loophole in the ruling law of the Otherside to allow Satan to free his father, the Devil, from his prison behind the Gates of Hell. Under normal circumstances, such a feat could only be accomplished by slaying each Prince of Hell to acquire their individual Keys to the Gates of Hell. This is easier said than done, and I’m not too sure it’s all that easily said, either. So, Satan sought a shortcut.

The Anathema Proxy clause, listed deep within the Soul Accord of the Seven Princes of Hell, would allow Satan to circumvent the arduous task of fratricide by instilling pure seeds of sin in seven mortal proxies. To do this, he had his minions stir up all manner of chaos in Long Beach, seeking to tip the scales of virtue and sin in his favor. And, for what it’s worth, he got very close to succeeding—if it hadn’t been for the original Cafe and Diner. However, stopping Satan brought retaliation, or perhaps, attention? It’s unclear what exactly transpired, but the result was a crisp, smokey smell as the original Cafe and Diner burnt to the ground, with the original owner’s charred corpse inside.
