THE OWNER

All I can offer now is my usual hollow optimism. As for Sofia, she was already knocking at death’s door. While it is a shame she had to die, there was nothing we could have done to prevent it after she lost Mrs. Aka’s game. As for #1313, we are lucky that Mrs. Aka can’t do the same to her for fear of her own safety. And thankfully, #71 was able to mitigate the worst of Mrs. Aka’s lingering pains. As for our continuing battle against the Open Doors Church for control of the greater Los Angeles coffee scene—we are far from giving up.

True, we are no longer able to take out Mrs. Aka. However, I have a feeling she may be the least of our worries. She is, of course, bound to Mrs. Umbra’s whims. And there is no doubt in my mind that Mrs. Umbra couldn’t care less about our little feud with Padre Santos. Which leaves lovely Mrs. Pleasant… Mrs. Pleasant who is currently down a limb and is the target of Mrs. Middletown. While I don’t love the idea of siding with Mrs. Middletown, the friend of my friend may just be my best friend.

I feel I need to be honest with all of you. While I am certain you have all seen my office to some extent, you have seen the many string boards and plans I have penned… we are currently in a rather unique position. I don’t exactly know how this will all play out. Between Mrs. Middletown, the church looking to hire our former employee Ms. Saturn, and Padre having added a second Anathema to his plan… I am not sure what our best move is. I don’t know if there is one, to be honest. But I feel now is the best time to make one thing perfectly clear:

No matter what happens next, we need to ensure that Padre Santos does not pay his tab in full. We need his tab to keep running at all costs. If Padre falls, things will only get worse.

Yours with avidity,
