Vampires. Hell yeah. HELL YEAH. I can deal with vampires, no problem. You can kill a vampire. You can’t kill a ghost. And I’ve seen more than enough vampire media to know exactly what to bring to Mrs. Stoker’s New Jersey home: stakes, garlic, holy water, silver bullets—wait, that might be for werewolves—but definitely stakes. CRUCIFIXES! Can’t forget those.

No. 35 mentioned that these “Black-Vein” vampires might not follow the usual rules from the movies, but we do know for sure that light is their weakness. And lucky for us, unlike the Necropolis, we get a lot of natural sunlight here. So, we’re heading out to investigate in the middle of the afternoon. Worst case, if things get hairy, we just run outside and we’re good. We’re also packing glowsticks, flashlights, LEDs, laser pointers, the works. And even if stakes don’t kill them… it’s gotta suck having a giant piece of wood driven through your heart. If they have hearts. Demons have hearts, right? And they’re called “Black-Veins,” so that implies blood… which probably means hearts.

It’d be awesome if No. 512 could help us with this one. Undead stuff is totally her thing, seeing as she’s, well, undead herself. But Palm Beach is tied up investigating weird fluctuations in the Everdark, and last I heard, No. 512 was on some expedition through the Pits with No. 71. So yeah… that’s off the table. But even without our favorite undead darling, I’m sure we’ll be fine. They’re just demons. And honestly, I’ll take demons over ghosts any day of the week.

Oh, right—No. 116 doesn’t want us going in guns blazing or anything. So far, these vampires seem pretty chill. Or they’re just very good at hiding their kills. Which… I guess is fine? We’re not the police. We’re not the Lighthouse. The Cafe’s job is to keep the balance. As long as they’re not randomly attacking tourists on the streets… it might not be our problem to worry about.
