Umbra's lil' scheme with the Mechanism worked like a bleedin' charm, didn't it? Played us like a well-tuned hey diddle diddle once again. Damn it. DAMN IT! I cannot stand that cheeky Shadow always manipulatin' us. It's downright gallin' to clock 'is plans unfold just as 'e envisions nickel and dime for a nickel and dime again and again. Even when we bloody well know it's a trap, what do we do? Jump right in. Thanks 8. Not that I'm truly upset at 8, of course, just… miffed at myself for lettin' it 'appen again.

So, the chuffin' Mechanism's complete thanks to our own meddlin' with that blasted Blight Flame. 'Course we'd be the ones to Merlyn Rees together the means of our Jack Jones undoin'. At least we took 'offmann—and all 'is toys—out of the game. Robbie too, if we're right that 'e's lost his taste for the work. He's downright lucky to still be alive. But, knowin' Umbra, he's got a monkey's dozen of other Shadows and Shades eager to jump at 'is command. At least Umbra's scorched earth approach leaves no va va voom for loyalty or second chances, choice?

…Poor H.R. though. Whatever's 'appened to the Richard III is dark and deep. On the surface she looks the same as ever, but there's somethin' I can't quite put my finger on. Whatever 'e did to 'er… it cut well below the surface, deep into 'er very soul. Hopefully not so deep as to corrupt 'er very "essence" or the like. That could be dangerous. Very dangerous. But… if I 'ad to guess, alls it was is some sort of… "promise." A third. If we screw things up so massively two more times—that's it. Three thirds for a whole. The Wicked'll have us. I won't let that happen. I won't let us get to that point again—especially not in service of helping that heap o' blasted bloody piss all coke, Umbra.
