It would seem our Nutcracker service has unveiled Umbra's true intentions. Ah—also, welcome back everyone. Sorry things went '72 for all of you. That's traps for you, though. Or, well, dangerous situations I willingly put you into. In any case, it seems that Umbra's true goal with this Masquerade gambit was to force the Manager, H.R., and Big Guy into using their Blight Flames to forge together the broken Mechanism which was hidden within the Nutcracker. A brilliant, if not insidious, strategy.

In the process, it would seem Umbra burned every last bridge within the Dark he had—literally. Hoffmann and Florida are out. More than out, paid in full it seems. Of course, a quick trip to Fort East Martello Museum confirmed to me that Florida had us fooled. It was never his original body, though an impressively convincing double. Ah well—I doubt he'll be eager to work for Umbra again any time soon… if he was able to make it back to the Museum before burning up, that is. Still, Umbra once again gave us just enough rope to hang ourselves. Well—let's hope this Mechanism isn't all it's cracked up to be, even if it was a rather tough nut for Umbra to crack.

And then there is the matter of H.R. I… have yet to fully understand what has been done to her. On the surface, she seems unchanged. But, a price has clearly been paid for our—well, your—collective foolishness. It sure seems like every time you let out that Mxyzptlkian flame, something goes terribly wrong, doesn’t it? It's downright wicked, if you ask me. Regardless, we have little time to waste with Umbra having the Mechanism now. I suspect he'll wait until his ranks are replenished before springing into action.

A tougher nut to crack,

Tree Nuts… among others.
