DINER RECEIPT
RECEIPT NUMBER: RATP02
RECEIPT DATE: 10 16 1988
MANAGER TITLE: TRUSTED ASSOCIATE
RECEIPT NOTES:

As with Secret, the CaDCom did a wonderful job transcribing most of our rather terse interview with Madeline Saturn. To be honest, it went better than I’d expected. Madeline… well, she’s rather distrustful of all authority—yours included, mon nouvel ami. But I could tell: you were drawn in by her charms, weren’t you? There’s something oddly refreshing about someone in this line of work who cares so little for secrecy and sipping slowly on coffee. Madeline? She prefers to drink it as quickly as possible, in as few gulps as she can manage. True, she stormed out…

But she wants in.

I can tell. And besides, the Cafe is still standing. Trust me, if Madeline had sensed any impropriety in our business, she would’ve leveled it without a second thought. She knows me—and she must certainly remember what I did for her while she was still under Lima’s so-called loving care. Not that I imply she owes me anything, eh? What I did for her, I’d do for anyone trapped under the Indigo’s watchful eye. But she knows my intentions are good, and I suspect she feels… eh, mostly the same about you, mon nouvel ami.

I know, I know—she isn’t “meant to be,” but I sense you’ve started to soften a bit in that regard. As we’ve discussed so many times, the best way to outplay Fate is to do the unexpected, no? Besides, Eight and Mon Amour are both on board with hiring her. Though, even if we all want her on the team—the choice is ultimately hers, yes? She may want to aid our cause, yet still choose not to. After all, she’s spent so much of her life since the S&P keeping everyone else at arm’s length, careful not to pull them in, only to leave them shattered.
