DINER RECEIPT
RECEIPT NUMBER: AZM05
RECEIPT DATE: 9 19 19XX
MANAGER TITLE: BALTIMORE
RECEIPT NOTES:

The Bird has flown the coop? That is surprising, isn’t it? Allegedly, of course. I wouldn’t want to spread rumors of that magnitude over just one day out of office. But—from what I’ve heard from mon amour—He’s never simply out of office. Where would He even go? It’s His. All of it is His. If He’s truly missing, He’d have to be somewhere outside the scope of everything else, yet still close enough for things to keep running, more or less, as they should. And places like that? I can count them on one hand.

It’s definitely not a problem for the Cafe and Diner, I know that much. We haven’t even opened yet—we couldn’t possibly track down a missing Bird. Maybe in a few decades, with enough employees and infrastructure, we’d be in a position to help. But today? This week? This month? This year? No. It’s ridiculous. Still, I know it’s been weighing on mon amour. They have a close enough connection that, even in her dreams, she usually hears His birdsong, even if she can’t track Him down in her rêve éveillé. For what it’s worth… I haven’t heard His birdsong either in quite a few nights.

As for what we can do… we’ll cover this up. We really don’t need the S&P poking around a potentially significant source of comfort food. No, that won’t do at all. I’ll admit, it is one of the Cafe and Diner’s primary functions to keep the coffee hot for all involved, including our dear friends at the S&P. And this is one pot we can’t let go cold. So, I’ve called in an early favor, and he should be here tomorrow to discuss our options. Who knows? Maybe he’s got Bird on the other line. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
