DINER RECEIPT RECEIPT NUMBER: CTA03 RECEIPT DATE: 9 13 19XX MANAGER TITLE: BALTIMORE RECEIPT NOTES: You want to know my thoughts about Sahir? He’s wonderful. Truly, he is. His connections are already impressive, and working with the Cafe and Diner will only make them more so—I know that much. But aren’t we moving a bit fast? We’ve only been putting this Cafe and Diner together for a month—a single month, if that. I know, I know… I have journals, notebooks, and plans stretching back to my parents’ untimely death at the horrid red hands of Miss. Cadillac… but even so, I’m not sure the time is right yet.

I want Sahir to join us. Honestly, I can’t even picture our Cafe without him. But there are still so many pieces missing from that final picture. And the most important one? It’s hard to describe. It’s not a thing—it’s more of an idea. A driving force that will guide our Cafe and Diner where it needs to go if we’re going to defy the odds. And there are odds against us—many people would rather we didn’t do the work we plan to do. People who are perfectly happy with the way things are now.

…To beat those odds, we might need to be unpredictable ourselves. If even I wouldn’t expect us to bring Sahir on board just yet—maybe that’s exactly what we should do. Still, he can’t work with us at the Cafe. Not yet. It’s not ready. And, like mon amour, I’m concerned about the safety measures we have in place. But… to please my most trusted associate, I suppose I can find work for Sahir outside the Cafe. He’ll be our… “secret” employee, for now. Secret. I rather like that nickname, actually.
