CAFE RECEIPT
RECEIPT NUMBER: CTA01
RECEIPT DATE: 9 12 19XX
MANAGER TITLE: TRUSTED ASSOCIATE
RECEIPT NOTES:

Well, I’d say that went rather well, wouldn’t you? I had a feeling nouvel ami would get along with Sahir quite nicely.

S.O.T

Sahir: [Baltimore], I presume? Pleased to make your connection.

Baltimore: Don’t you mean “acquaintance?”

Sahir: Oh no, [Baltimore]. Acquaintances are a dime a dozen. Anyone can pretend to know someone. I make real connections.

Baltimore: I see.

Sahir: So, [Trusted Associate] tells me you’re working on creating your own organization—one counter to the Agency?

Baltimore: Yes, that’s correct. Though I wouldn’t say we’re exactly running “counter” to the Agency.

Sahir: You hunt cryptids and demons, yes?

Baltimore: Yes.

Sahir: And what do you do when you capture a cryptid or confront a demon?

Baltimore: We try to send them back to the Otherside.

Sahir: So, counter to the Agency’s policy of “kill first, worry about repercussions later.”

Baltimore: Ha. Yes, I suppose that’s one way we’re different. You don’t agree with the Agency’s methods, I take it?

Sahir: I understand them, at least. Humans—they fear what they don’t know. Cryptids and demons included. To maintain balance, I see the logic in removing the imbalance as quickly and completely as possible.

Trusted Associate: What a lovely non-answer, Sahir.

Sahir: You know I don’t take sides, Luthuli.

Trusted Associate: You do take sides. You just don’t announce them.

Sahir: Perhaps. But as I said, I understand the Agency’s methods—from a human perspective. You’re human, too, yes?

Baltimore: I feel like I’ve been getting that question a lot lately. Yes, of course, I’m human.

Sahir: So, how do you expect to maintain balance between worlds? Just curious.

Baltimore: [Trusted Associate], you haven’t told him who our third partner is yet, have you?

Trusted Associate: I didn’t want to get his hopes up if you weren’t interested in hiring him.

Sahir: Well, they’re up now. Who else are you working with?

Baltimore: Lady Lucifer, the Prince of—

Sahir: —Pride. Yes, of course. I know of her. You’re working with Lucifer? Wow. That explains… quite a lot. Honestly, [Baltimore], I thought you were a bit crazy. This “Cafe and Diner” sounded like a fool’s errand. But to be working with Lucifer herself? You might just be able to make a difference after all. Can I meet her? Make her connection too?

Baltimore: That’s up to her.

Sahir: Of course. Forgive my enthusiasm. I’ve only met two other Princes, thus far.

Trusted Associate: Reclusive bunch, aren’t they? I’ve only met three myself. What about you, mon nouvel ami?

Baltimore: All seven.

Sahir: All seven? When? How? Where? …Why?

Trusted Associate: Yes, when did you meet the other Princes?

Baltimore: Here and there. Sahir—if you end up working for the Cafe and Diner, I can assure you, in time, you’ll meet all seven. Just the other day, Mammon was poking his head into our business. They’re all so… curious about what their youngest sibling is up to, working with humans in the Flipside.

Sahir: So… is that a job offer?

Baltimore: Tentatively. I still need more time to put the pieces together. We aren’t even officially open yet. But, Sahir, I do want to work with you. You can trust me on that.

Sahir: I see. Well then, here, my card.

Baltimore: This is… a whole stack?

Sahir: Pass them out to anyone interesting for me, would you? I’d greatly appreciate it.
