RECEIPT NOTES:
Ah… my most trusted associate. If only I could share everything I know. While I’m certain Marcus and Madeline are wonderful in their own right—they aren’t barista material. They weren’t before, and they certainly aren’t now. Sahir, on the other hand… he is, or rather, was, a valuable asset to the Cafe and Diner, not to mention a close personal friend of mine. While we are ahead of schedule, I see no harm in meeting with him now. In fact, I rather like the idea. So far, in the month or so since we’ve been back in business, I haven’t had the chance to reconnect with those from my past—or, perhaps more accurately, from my soon-to-be future.
I’m uncertain whether it’s wise to hire Sahir this early. But I’m also concerned about driving him away from the Cafe altogether if I delay too long… perhaps there’s something I can work out to keep him interested, long enough for him to stay until our grand opening. As for Marcus and Madeline… I don’t know them, and more importantly, I don’t trust them. They must be anomalies in this recreation of the Universe. Not part of the original vision for my perfect Cafe. But how could I possibly explain that to you?
To ease this tension I sense building between us, I’ll meet with them, feign interest, but realistically, mon vieil ami, they are likely of no consequence. Strange, though… I don’t recall you ever mentioning Marcus before. Surely someone that significant to you would’ve come up in all our years together. Last I remember—and it’s been… for me, at least… a few million years—it was Constance Anthony who rescued you from the Zulu Cult.
Then again, perhaps time has shifted ever so slightly, rewriting just enough to alter the details while still bringing us to the same place. Marcus… his name does sound familiar, but I can’t quite place why. Maybe once I meet him, it will all become clear.
