Damn it! DAMN IT!

I apologize for the coarse language, but this was a disaster—an utter failure in every regard. No. 1313’s prediction was partially correct; Satan’s minions were separated to an extent. However, they were still close enough together to ruin our plans. Worse, El Coco was seemingly a few steps ahead of No. 5’s strategy, and this whole damn thing was a setup.

Fitch enchanted Janos to appear as No. 4, causing untold confusion and chaos as we tried to figure out which large, demon-armed man was the real No. 4. No. 17 attempted to break the transformation, but they hesitated too long, giving Janos the chance to strike, throwing No. 17 to the ground with a horrible crack. At that point, Fitch swooped in to feed off No. 17’s magic, empowering herself, Janos, and Cece to a level where there was little we could do to stop them. Though we still tried, and tried, and tried—to no avail.

That horrid demoness, Fitch, had us trapped inside a never-ending web of illusions where any progress we thought we were making was null. After who knows how long, we began to forget even ourselves and started to turn on one another. Somehow… in the chaos and confusion, we came to believe No. 17 was the source of our madness and…

He isn’t dead.

We didn’t kill him, thankfully. But… we did… we… We put a stop to the source of Miss. Fitch’s power, which shattered the illusion. Perhaps that’s the most elegant way to put it. No one is quite sure who thrust the shard of stained glass into his chest, but we all share the same guilt over it. No. 17… will be fine. As the illusion faded, we had more than enough time to get him out of the hellscape that Long Beach has become. But… I imagine his recovery will take a good deal of time. Time we scarcely have.
