As Abraxas' children began their work for Demiurge, he soon learned just how dire things had become outside of Skald. His youngest, Asmodeus, found herself with little to do—a dangerous state for one so curious. She spent her days shadowing her siblings, the creations of Demiurge, and occasionally Demiurge himself, absorbing every piece of gossip and rumor.
In Arcadia, a war raged between Demiurge's faithful and those who had lost their faith. The Pale—the adversary—spread like a plague, consuming everything in its path. Only a few scattered lands offered safety as Demiurge's seas swarmed with the Pale and its twisted aquatic spawn. The Pale had become an infection, multiplying and destroying with terrifying speed.
Eden, however, fared even worse. Despite Demiurge and Eve's hopes, the Utopia had not healed with her return. It remained empty and barren, cloaked in darkness and decay. Abraxas and Demiurge had sacrificed Eve for their stolen powers of creation, leaving Abraxas with a guilt that gnawed at him constantly. He knew he had to ease Eve's burden, somehow.
Abraxas spent days and nights poring over his journals, crafting something new. Something forged with his own hands, independent of Eden's powers. He poured his heart and soul into the project, hoping it would be enough to alleviate the burden on Eve and Demiurge.
Deep below Skald's lake, Abraxas built a spire. Fashioned from the shimmering glass of Skald's subterranean magma, the spire of the—
"Whatcha doing?"
"Asmi, my dear, you startled me. What are you doing down here, silly goat. How did you find me?"
Asmodeus shrugged, kicking at the loose dirt and pebbles. "Just looking for something to do."
Abraxas chuckled softly. "I see. Well, perhaps you could help me. What do you think? This tower, it'll be a… a conduit."
"A conduit?"
"Yes. A way to send energy to the other Utopias."
"Huh. It's… pretty, I guess. What’s it made from?"
"From nothing. From myself. It will take time, but it will be worth it in the end."
"Why?"
Abraxas paused, searching for the right words. "Your mother and Demiurge have sacrificed so much for our Utopias. This spire will provide them with strength, without needing their direct intervention. They have done so much for us. Now, it’s our turn to repay the favor."
Asmodeus nodded, though uncertainty lingered in her eyes.
"Want to see how it works?" Abraxas asked, lifting Asmodeus into his tired arms.
"Sure!"
And so, Abraxas and Asmodeus toiled away for days and months. And together, they finished their secret spire. When complete, it sent waves of Skald's energy to the other Utopias. It eased the burdens of the other planes, but something had changed. Things were not supposed to change this much.
