Well, we managed to take down the Grendel. We unraveled its current tether, leaving behind an empty body once again. Of course, Umbra had to be a dick and take the body back. No clue where he'd store such a thing—but I have a sneaking suspicion he actually put it back in that ocean prison or whatever that thing was. I mean, it took him a week to try to control Grendel. He needed light magic, which is something he can never do on his own. Which—ugh, yes. I think we ended up helping him again, after all. We’ve gotta stop doing that.
Umbra also mentioned some sort of "coming storm," for which Grendel was supposed to be the vessel, but it seems like that was a bust. I’ll take that as a win for us. I'm still not sure what the "coming storm" is, but I’m guessing it wasn’t quite compatible with Grendel's body or maybe even that weird black sludge he used to prime Grendel. Ah, speaking of that little ball of gunk… Umbra called it a "seed." Seed is, of course, a vague word with a lot of different meanings, but I doubt it’s a literal plant-type seed. It’s more like a ball of oily black slag. Nothing would grow out of that. However, it did seem to respond to Umbra's command…
Oh, yeah, the Manager's okay, by the way. The shadowy spike ball Umbra turned the seed into messed up his hand pretty bad, but honestly, it did more damage to his vocal cords. The spell he was trying to cast… it’s not one you should leave incomplete. His voice’ll come back in a few days, and his hand is already healing up. We've moved the seed to… somewhere. Not gonna say where we put it. Not here. Knowing Umbra, he’s probably keeping tabs on us and stuff. Unfortunately, the CaDComs are great at keeping Demons out, but Umbra is no Demon. Hi loser.
