Half success is what he calls it? 8 is ever the optimist, eh? No. Our escapades at Blackwood Manor were far from successful. If anything, all three of us are quite frankly lucky to still be alive. Though, in some sense, our work here is thankfully done. For now. Nothing is ever truly finished in this line of work, is it? And I can’t help but suspect that with the recent uptick of Boogieman attacks, we have not even begun to see the start. If it hasn’t already become evident, Satan is trapped within Blackwood Manor.
Yes, since 1997, the dark Prince of Wrath himself, lord Satan, has been tucked away in Blackwood Manor. No point in trying to keep that a secret anymore. Not with how much you all managed to discover on your own, eh? Yes, the notebook No. 53 pilfered from Levithan’s plane is indeed Satan’s Book of Regents. See, the Princes of Hell are a unique lot of mortals. Typically, when a mortal like you or me dies, our soul either moves on or is reincarnated in the Otherside. Same for demons, albeit they are reincarnated into the Flipside. Of course, there are many, many messy exemptions to this process, but the majority of people simply live, die, live, die, live, die, until eventually, their soul moves on. No one is quite sure what causes a soul to move on, though whatever the case is, it is a final exit, if you will.
So, as you could imagine, if and when killed, the Princes would prefer not to be reincarnated as lesser human mortals, and so, they simply don’t. The seven Princes of Hell are some of the only known mortals who can persist as a mere soul without a body for as long as it takes for their followers to find and prepare a suitable new body for them to inhabit. I suppose this makes the Princes closer to Elders than mortals. In any case, it makes killing Princes quite a difficult task, no? So, back when the first Cafe dealt with Satan, we chose to keep him alive. Unfortunately… well, all good things come to an end. It would seem Satan’s Regents have discovered a way to free him from his prison. Something along the lines of blood pays blood, I suppose. If that is how they wish to proceed, we have no choice but to pay all thirteen tabs in full.
