That was… intense. Before leaving the Big Easy, we had to finish our business with the Finfolk and their Erinyes Goddess, Megaera. Of course, she wanted the Pearl back, but I guess No. 0 already had a plan to deal with her. We're not totally sure what will happen to the Finfolk now, but they shouldn't cause any more trouble with their Goddess out of the picture.

S.O.T.

Miss. Meg: Where is the Pearl?

No. 5: …P-pearl? Wazzat, never heard of no Pearl—

Miss. Meg: You cannot lie to me, mortal! You—! You have it!

[Miss. Meg flew toward No. 3, talons ready to strike. Before she could make contact, No. 0 put his arm out, Pearl in hand.]

No. 0: This, one, Megaera?

Miss. Meg: It is mine to guard! Release it!

No. 0: Mm… I'm afraid I can't do that. I can't trust you with it. You did lose it the first time… Dangerous people want this. You saw what the Sunkenman was able to do with it.

Miss. Meg: My Mistress of the Night gave it to me to protect!

No. 0: Now, it's ours to protect.

No. 4: And will we do what it takes to protect it.

[No. 0 shook his head.]

No. 0: Idle threats won't do us much good I'm afraid. She's an Elder after all. Unkillable.

Miss. Meg: Elder? No. I am not one of those wretched abominations. I am a Goddess.

No. 0: Can you be killed?

Miss. Meg: Of course not.

No. 0: Elder. Mythic Elder, perhaps. But an Elder all the same. Look, we're going to need to work this out somehow, won't we?

Miss. Meg: You dare challenge my authority? The authority of the Night itself?!

No. 0: We're not challenging your authority; we're questioning your efficacy. This world—it is always changing, Megaera. Unlike a myth, the outcome remains… unpredictable.

[No. 0 stepped forward, lowering the Pearl, showing a sign of willingness to negotiate.]

No. 0: Let's be reasonable. We have a common goal here. You wish to protect the Pearl from misuse, and so do we. We've seen its effects firsthand. Isn't there… a way to ensure its safety together?

Miss. Meg: And what would you— GAHHH!!

[No. 0’s words signaled Leviathan's sigil to conjure an abyssal whirl, which sank Miss. Meg deep down into the Black Tide. No. 0 then reclaimed the Pearl.]

No. 0: Only one way to deal with Elders.

No. 6: Did… did you send her to the Black Tide?

No. 4: How the hell did you—

No. 0: A magician never reveals his secrets. She'll be fine. She's a Goddess, after all.

No. 3: …What do we do with the Finfolk now? We—well, you—flushed away their Goddess.

[No. 0 shrugged]

No. 0: They'll have to return to their old God of Envy, I suppose. If he'll take them back, that is. I imagine he will—it was probably eating him up inside that his minions found a new fixation.
