Sharp instincts, #62, as always. Of course, the Red Rain is connected to the Redman. Why wouldn’t it be? I suppose the better question would be, “Why is the Redman bringing Red Rain to the Flipside?” And to answer that, we can make a few assumptions off the bat. Mainly, the Red Rain helps the Open Doors Church. Well, that, or it helps Redman and the Hatman with their own goals, but we can already assume that by helping the Church, they are advancing their own objectives. Why else work under Satan, right? So, why the Red Rain? Well, I’ve done a healthy amount of snooping around the source of our sanguine showers, and I think I have some bits and pieces.

First, yes, the rain is 100% originating from the Open Doors Church. Namely, it seems like it’s being conjured via a statue in the Open Doors cemetery. Nasty piece of demonic work… vaguely humanoid in shape but with grotesquely distorted features. Elongated limbs that twist and arch in unnatural angles, eyes that are deep with empty sockets that stare out with a clear malevolent gaze, mouth wide open, not… quite in a scream but almost an eternal and ethereal chant of dark incantations. Probably the most important piece of this hellish lawn ornament is the blood-red orb it holds in one hand, pulsating and beating like a heart.

Second, I saw the Redman turn the thing on. So… yeah. This is his doing. I’m pretty sold on that now. I couldn’t make out every detail of the ritual, but from what I could see from my vantage point, he sort of caressed the orb, and then the rain started to roll in. Interestingly, it seems like the Red Rain is at least partially similar to that found in the Hauntaurskald during the Siege, as Mothman was careful not to get splashed, and the Redman was quick to unfurl an umbrella to keep it off of him. So, I’m still not entirely sure what the point of bringing the Hauntaurskald’s weather to the Flipside is, as the Dark Triad just sort of… stood around watching the rain for an hour before the Redman shut it back off.
