Answer and Explanation

Answer: Hidebehind
Explanation: The Hidebehind is a mysterious nocturnal creature from American folklore. It is said to prey upon humans that wander the woods at night, and was credited for the disappearances of early colonial loggers when they failed to return to camp, and its codename comes from its mention in Fearsome Critters by Henry H. Tyron.

No luck yet with this elusive little buddy. I know I probably shouldn’t call “Mrs.” customers “little buddy,” but I can’t help it when it comes to cryptids! They’re all just little weird guys, and sure, some of them eat people sometimes, but that shouldn’t disqualify them from little buddy status. I’m not even sure if Hidebehinds do eat people for what it’s worth. Fearsome Critters is like the National Enquirer for the Otherside. Anyway, I figured I’d take this time to write a bit about what I know about the Hidebehind for those curious and for the sake of record keeping.

So, the reason for the urgency of this service is that if Ciel is right and the Snallygaster is planning on gastering the Hidebehind, we could be in serious trouble. Why? Because of the Hidebehind’s main ability and its namesake. Despite its imposing stature of around 15 feet tall, it is really, really good at hiding behind things. It can sort of morph and contort its form into just about any shape, and it does so effortlessly. Now, that alone would be a good power to have, but the Hidebehind takes it a step further. The Hidebehind is able to hide behind unseen objects as well, things like the boundary lines. It’s actually how they end up in the Flipside to begin with.

So, it’s a pretty obvious target for the Snallygaster. The power to become undetectable and to move between the Otherside and Flipside at will? That alone would likely put Mrs. Middletown up a category into Miss. Like I said earlier, I don’t actually think Hidebehinds eat people. They’re only a “Mrs.” because they might. The Snallygaster is a blooded demon with potentially sinister motives and the power to absorb other powers. We don’t need her being able to stalk her prey any more efficiently than she already does.
