Puzzle

“’54 Pterýgio.”
#44 Trivia | 4 Words

Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: What does 'Pterýgio' mean? What language is it in?
Clue 2: Any Greek-related alien sightings?
Clue 3: More specifically, one that occurred in '54. Linked - even tangentially - to the translation of that word.
Clue 4: Minus the word 'UFO'.

Answer and Explanation

Answer: The Great Greek Flap
Explanation: The word Pterygio is Greek for a 'fin', as in what fish have. This, coupled with '54 and #44's trivia, suggests we need to search for alien sightings in Greece in 1954. One of the most prominent sightings is 'The Great Greek UFO Flap', or The Great Greek Flap.

While #17 investigates Augustine Sarcophim, I want to get to the bottom of what he did to #35. Or, more precisely, what he stole from #35's subconscious. I've been following various leads but have turned up nothing concrete. And it's still not clear if #35 was even aware of what they were doing to her. Typically, when customers have dug around in her dreams in the past, she's been asleep, but there's a chance she was awake during Augustine and Abigail's torture. If that is the case, perhaps she remembers more than her mind will let her?

We could potentially utilize the boon we won from Complexico's game, the Veil of Cassandra, to uncover the truth behind what they stole. Naturally, using the veil would permanently obscure the truth from #35. However, if she already can't remember what happened… what harm is there in trying? If anything, it would be an excellent opportunity to test if the veil's powers extend to the CaDCom transcription feature. And if they do, how would that work? Would the veil rewrite the transcription log, or would it remain unchanged yet entirely unbelievable?

I think it's worth a shot, and worst case, #35 alters the truth of what happened to her permanently, and we're back to square one. More likely, however, is that the veil won't work, at least in this case. It's all about "seeing" the truth, right? But is recalling a past event the same as "seeing?" I'm not sure how semantically finicky the veil is. I'm hoping that it being a prize of Complexico would indicate that it's a bit more powerful than it lets on. Doubly so if we can capture the truth it reveals.
