Puzzle

“His penultimate prize.”

Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: This puzzle is technically solvable, but it's pretty tough. Look at the other SDN receipts and HLB07. What type of thing is possessing C.C.?
Clue 2: What 'shadow' is well-known for causing nightmares? Check out Open Doors if you can't remember.
Clue 3: Alright, the hard part's here. What is Umbra's goal, and the last thing he needs to reach it? It's in Welcome the Dark and technically in Dive Fall, though those Archives haven't come out as of writing.
Clue 4: Alternatively, it's mentioned in Adynamia of the Archons, though in a much more obscure way.
Clue 5: More specifically, CD-GOTD04, though it's an alternate title.
Clue 6: Honestly, you'd be better off spoiling yourself for Welcome The Dark in CX-TRG02, but regardless - look at the word 'Enochian'. What other names for it are there? Ones that signify ordinality, maybe?

Answer and Explanation

Answer: First Bible
Explanation: A rather familiar shadowfolk is Mrs./Miss. Umbra, well known for causing, well, Shadowy Nightmares. He desires the First, or Enochian, Bible as the penultimate step in his goal to re-write the Universe.

SHADOWY NIGHTMARES CASE NO. 7

S.O.T.

Mr. Unknown: Well?

C.C.: Well, what?

Mr. Unknown: Your control is slipping.

C.C.: “My” control?

Mr. Unknown: Apologies. “Our” control is slipping.

C.C.: Octavia was bad, but now that Rachel’s here—

Mr. Unknown: Rachel is inconsequential. I doubt she will be able to tap into the threads of Fate, and even if she can, Fate is an old friend of the Cafe and Diner. It is the Angel I worry about.

C.C.: Angel?

Mr. Unknown: Yes. A pesky one at that. Her light threatens to snuff out our darkness.

C.C.: I knew there was something off about her. She’s here to protect the First Bible, huh?

Mr. Unknown: In a sense. She certainly won’t allow us to take it easily.

C.C.: And Leviathan will?

Mr. Unknown: No. Though I won’t let an overgrown fish stop me. Not now. Not when I am this close. And if there is one thing the Cafe and Diner is good at, it is disposing of Princes.

C.C.: Are you sure? This Cafe seems…

Mr. Unknown: Inexperienced? Yes. Perhaps that will be to our advantage. Leviathan may lower his guard long enough for you to deliver the killing blow.

C.C.: And how are we going to get close enough to Leviathan to do that?

Mr. Unknown: The Cafe and Diner will have to end up in Mayda, of course. I will see to it that you have a reason and means to do so. In the meantime, just play along. Be… honey sweet. Give Octavia, Rachel, and most importantly your dear Jackie, no reason to question you. In fact, this is where we part ways for now. I wouldn’t want our connection to raise undue suspicions. When the blackened tides rise, know that our time draws near.

C.C.: What if I need to reach you?

Mr. Unknown: You shouldn’t.

C.C.: What if the Angel—

Mr. Unknown: Fine. Here.

[Mr. Unknown handed C.C. a red paper doll]

C.C.: What is this?

Mr. Unknown: A way to reach me—with a price, of course. Only to be used in an emergency.

C.C.: Okay… and you’re sure that this is all…?

Mr. Unknown: You are letting the light blind you again, Charlotte.

C.C.: Right.
