HORRORS CASE NO. E

Wow, I’m sort of surprised that R.R.’s poem thing… worked? And, of course, I’m glad it seems to have worked without any of the side effects she warned about. Well beyond her new propensity for rhyming, but I can’t tell if that’s just a bit she’s doing or if she really can’t stop herself from accidentally rhyming. Oh well, that’s probably a temporary problem. Assuming the poem she “wrote” is legit, we should try and crack its meaning. R.R. did say that these sorts of poems are never quite straightforward, so we’ll have to make some interpretation.

So, the first stanza is clearly about us reopening the Cafe and Diner and our gaining of new employees. There are seven of us now, after all! The second stanza, to me, seems to be also about the Cafe and gaining new employees, though the line “basting under his good graces,” sort of catches me off-guard. Could that be referring to the original owner? The third stanza seems to indicate something to do with Shamu, and that we’ll still need a few more employees before we can deal with… whatever it is he’s up to. The fourth stanza just clarifies that Shamu is hiding something. At least, that’s how I’m reading it. And for the last stanza, I think that’s a clear warning that we need to be careful of who we hire, as Shamu might try and… infiltrate the Cafe?

Honestly, I’m not too sure. Interpreting poetry has never quite been my thing. But I do think the main takeaway is that we should (or is it “will”?) hire additional employees. And, if we’re truly going to be a patchwork, we need to be cut from different cloths—which is to say I probably can’t keep hiring old high school chums forever, can I? I’ll see if O.L. knows anyone who might be a good fit for the Cafe.
