Summary of Receipt

17 agrees that they can’t give up the stones to Umbra, and suspects that either way this is going to play out, the Morbid King will be able to advance - either they give up the stones and Bartholomew chops down the Cimmerian Woods fully, or they stall and Nicole has to concentrate on keeping Bartholomew contained, allowing the Morbid King to find another way through. He mentions that, once again, they might be playing into Fate’s hands. There is one other option: rescue Magdalena, find Ursula, and send Bartholomew back before July 8th.

Once again, between a rock and a hard place, eh? While No. 53’s analysis of the situation was rather callous, she makes a good point. The life of one does not outweigh the lives of countless. We can only assume that the Morbid King will not simply stop at the Spire and will continue his conquest across the Otherside and eventually the Flipside as well. So, in that regard, we cannot give him the Langley stones. Without them, Black Queen Cole cannot keep her grandfather under control. The woods will fall, the shadows will flood the Necropolis, you know how it goes.

Equally annoying, without all 13 stones, Black Queen Cole cannot permanently relocate her grandfather. This would require her to continue focusing her magic on the incomplete set to keep him subdued, and certainly, the Morbid King would find another path to victory in the meantime. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. You know, this feeling oddly reminds me of our recent decision regarding the release of Satan. Almost as if, regardless of what we do, Fate will take its course. Though, we have little time to try and outplay Fate.

At first, I did not understand why the Morbid King chose Bart as a weapon, but now it is becoming all too clear. There is little we can do to stop him now, as we’ve wasted our time with the most obvious solution. I’m sure we could either pay Bart’s tab in full or relocate him by other methods… if we had enough time. But now we’re up against a deadline of just two weeks. So, the path forward is clear, though not easy. We must rescue Magdalena, find Ursula, and use the stones before the 8th. Well, if it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth doing, yes?
