Summary of Receipt

Turns out the shadow was the fake Umbra, who kidnapped Magdalena to be used as a hostage in exchange for the stones. 53 thinks they shouldn’t, or the Cimmerian Woods will fall, but Solomon Langley wants to do the trade.

Of course. Of course, it was Umbra. Why wouldn’t it have been Umbra? Or “UmBrA.” Whatever, you get the point. It was Umbra in Magdalena’s apartment. AND HE WAS JUST SITTING THERE! Like a total mastermind Machiavellian CREEPO! And, yes, of course, he was waiting for us. Typical. As it turns out, “uMbRa” has kidnapped Magdalena. He took her to stop us from getting all 13 stones or whatever, and he’ll kill her if we don’t give him the 11 stones we’ve already collected.

UGH.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. It’s one thing to be an evil shadow guy hellbent on being a dick. It’s another thing to make us do all of the work while you watch from the shadows waiting until we’re THIS CLOSE to finishing this stone-collecting MacGuffin fetch quest, and THEN you demand we give you everything. I wish he had just taken the stones two months ago before we did all this stupid work. Also, if we give up even like half of the stones, Big Man Bart will just keep chopping until the path to the Spire is nice and clear. UGH! We’re really backed into a corner now. And, yeah, I get it. It’s a good move. I get why Morbid/Umbra did this… but it’s soooooo annoying.

Oh, yeah, and also, oh no, Magdalena’s a hostage. I’ll be honest. I’m having a hard time sympathizing with a 300ish-year-old woman. If she dies, yeah, it’s sad, but, like, she should have died years ago anyway? It’s not a very good hostage. Well, it’s not a very good hostage to ME. Solomon is absolutely berserk, demanding we give Morbid the stones to save his sister. Like, no…? We’re not going to do that? We still need to stop Morbid from taking the Spire and then killing us all. It’s a trolley problem for sure, but not a very hard one from where I’m sitting. Then again, this is why I’m exclusively NOT in charge of moral or ethical decisions.
