Summary of Receipt

Belphegor is very confused as to how Satan thinks he can break the Gates of Hell using Manager 7. It just doesn’t work that way. Even Bird couldn’t do it without them. She suspects it’s because Fate said he could, but that’s not actually the case. Fate just takes the most favourable outcome for it from the different Cycles and makes it the most likely to happen. For example, Fate’s most relevant prophecy contained ‘In a basement under Cafe deep, stirs the beast of hellish creep. From its blood we’re born anew, as our debts will all come due’. Now, that would likely mean Miss. Augustine. In fact, it probably did. But there was no being ‘born anew’ from its blood. Which means that Fate probably shifted the goalposts to make the ‘beast’ refer to Satan instead. So now the CaD’s best plan would be to try and stop Fate before its new plan will actually work. Belphegor says that she’d normally ask Malachi Langley, the Doomsday Dog, for advice, but he’ll be showing up sooner rather than later anyway.

I’m confused. My brother has never exactly been the kind to think ahead but even for him this plan makes no sense. How exactly is he planning on opening the Gates to Hell WITHOUT the seven Keys? That’s the whole point of the Keys. I don’t even think Bird could crack open the Gates without the Keys. It’s a redundant failsafe for a reason. Even with the 2 Keys currently held by the Cold, we’re up 5 Keys. Well, 4, assuming Satan intends to use his in a sinister “Gates breaking way.” Though I have two myself, and I’m not planning on letting that happen. And good luck killing me to get them. I have the statistical knowledge to know that I only die in one out of every 17 septillion cycles. And even in those rare cycles where I do end up dying? I’m hardly as dead as my other siblings. Enough about that though. I can’t give away all my secrets, even in these “super-secret” receipts. I know my other siblings don’t read these, but my enemies most certainly do.

Back to my misanthropic brother. I think he thinks he can do this because of something Fate said. Rookie mistake. You can never trust a single rhyme out of Fate’s slimy… mouth? Does Fate have a mouth? Or… not that it’s important right now. What is, is that Fate recently said something along the lines of, “She now bears the cursed name of Fate, with her touch she’ll break the Gate. For his hellish congregation is well in tow, and all that’s left lies hidden down below. In a basement under Cafe deep, stirs the beast of hellish creep. From its blood we’re born anew, as our debts will all come due. With the dagger deep in heart, fast we approach a brand-new start. Weaving woes is quite the art, and Fate thanks all who play their part.”

The problem with putting any stock into anything Fate says is that Fate doesn’t actually know what’s going to happen any more than you or me. Okay, poor example. I know a lot more about what is going to happen than any of you. But even with my level of precognition thanks to the Ouroboros, I don’t know what will happen with 100% certainty. And Fate? Fate is just pulling every possible outcome from every possible cycle and taking the most favorable patterns to its plans and pushing them as, well, Fate. Most notably with this most recent “end-game debt come due” type prophecy, it didn’t come true. The Fountain of Youth beneath the Cafe and Diner never caused an apocalypse of newly born Elders.

So, this is where Fate gets tricky. NOW the “beast” beneath the Cafe is most likely Satan himself. Remember, the Cafe and Diner used to be run out of what is currently the Open Doors Church. And from Satan’s blood his flock is born anew. So, in some cycle somewhere, or in a few cycles, somehow “she who bears the cursed name of Fate will break the Gate.” All this to say, I don’t think my brother will be able to suddenly break open the Gates to Hell. I do however think Fate’s plans are shifting. Its goal posts are moving once again to suit its aims. And the best we can do is get ahead of it before it can enact whatever cobbled-together plan it thinks will work. Though I also know our most prominent link to Fate, Rachel, is taking a step back from Fate. I don’t blame her. I wouldn’t want to be a mouthpiece for it either.

I would confer with my usual source for apocalyptic prophecies, but I assume he’ll be showing up sooner rather than later anyway. I assume he’ll have some new prose for us to pour over when he does build up the courage to drop in. Though his warnings tend to come a lot closer to the wire than Rachel’s. Still, he’s on the list regardless, so one way or another we’re going to run into the Doomsday Dog.
