Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: This one's a strange kind of wordplay, using a set of very similar words.
Clue 2: Oche and echo are anagrams of one another. What about the other end-of-line words (aside from 'long' and 'hope')?
Clue 3: Sure, they're not all exact anagrams, but they all use a certain group of letters. What is this group of letters, and what word - linked to a hell of a time - does it spell out?

Answer and Explanation

Answer: Epoch
Explanation: The last word of each of the lines, except for the first and last, have very similar letters used. In fact, all of them are spelt using combinations of the letters e, p, o, c and h, which spells ‘Epoch’. An epoch is also a length of time.

At least Complexico is starting us off… easy? Cope, Hope, Chop, Echo, Pech, and Oche. The missing letter is always in the next word, leading to the full five-letter anagram: “Epoch”… or “one hell of a time.” I suppose that’s the “madness” of Complexico’s Complexities. While they always have only one solution, you can get to it a few different ways. Typically, one logical way, like figuring out the missing letter, and one illogical way, just assuming the answer is a synonym for a stretch of time.

With that in mind… I’m totally stuck on the next Complexity. The only thing that stands out to me is that he used the French word “voir” instead of “see.” Also, “Court” is capitalized, though I assume he is referring to the Court of Angels, who initially enacted his Cancellation Clause. At least, that’s usually what the capital C means in our line of work. Any ideas?

“I sense quite a conflict between Church and Cafe.
Well, you can’t send me back now, can you?
Cancellation has been terminated!
I wonder if the Court will be mad?
Though, things are still quite preliminary.
On the one hand, I wish to be free—
On the other hand, they wish I wouldn’t be.
I suppose we’ll voir.”
