Well… now what? We, we got Mr. Tormenta. The Acalica. The weather cryptid. He was being held in a sort of strange magical encasement attached to the underside of the Queen Mary. Though… he’s still… encased. He’s in some sort of, well, to me, it looks like a lantern, but it’s clearly some sort of magical object. Worse, the lantern is filled with some sort of oily concoction that is holding the Acalica in suspension. The small fairy-like creature is stuck in what looks to be an agonizing state. All of our attempts to break the lantern have so far failed, and #71 is worried that any further attempts might do more harm than good.
At least one question has been answered, why would an Acalica bring such horrendous weather to Long Beach. The answer? It wouldn’t. Not of its own accord, anyhow. This lantern and oil seem to be forcing the Acalica’s weather powers to manifest unpredictably and without end. On the bright side, having the lantern at the Cafe’s physical location has brought the eye of the storm to us. Which… is admittedly nice. I’ve kind of missed seeing the sky these past few days. Though, it also paints a massive storm-coated target over the Cafe. Whoever did this probably won’t take long to figure out that their trapped Acalica has been moved.
Speaking of the Acalica capturers, I think it’s reasonably fair to say that this is the work of the Open Doors Church, right? With Padre Santos using this to fuel his latest fire and brimstone sermons, it just seems too convenient. Plus, didn’t #17 say that Mr. White’s helicopter encountered a “Pleasant Disaster,” and some of his cursed merchandise was stolen? Could this lantern be one of Mr. White’s cursed objects? And the fluid inside the lantern, it might be some mixture of the chemicals Pleasant was stealing from the derailed trains.
I’ll see if #17 can get in touch with Mr. White regarding the lantern, but in the meantime, there’s nothing we can do except destroy the lantern with the Acalica inside it. Which is ethically questionable, yes, but moreover, it could unleash a true Pandora’s box of even worse weather.
