Summary of Receipt

The CaD's just been hacked by a group, 'Deep Corp 23'. There are three things to note: firstly, this organisation has to have some sort of back-door access into the CaD systems - their network's not public. Next, there's mention of a 'Deep Corp' in the old files given to the Owner by the Investors. However, the '23' is new, which implies a link to Astoria 23. So it's possible that Astoria hacked the CaD, possibly as retribution for their raid. In any case, the two aren't on friendly terms, what with them treating the Third Cafe as a 'knock-off version'. So the Owner decides to call the Actuaries for help.

CAFE AND DINER RECEIPT FROM 9/04/17
OWNER
RECEIPT: DEEPCORP001
STATUS: NEON

It would seem that our systems were recently hacked by an unknown organization calling themselves the “Deep Corp 23.” That shouldn’t have been possible. Not only is our security pretty good, but it’s also not even on a public network. So, whoever this “Deep Corp 23” is… they have some sort of backdoor access. Their name is interesting too, as I remember reading about a “Deep Corporation” or “DC” in some of the old CaD files the Investors gave me. The 23 is new. I know this goes against everything I, no we, stand for but…

I am going to reach out to Astoria 23rd for help.

The number in their name cannot be a coincidence, and if double agents are working in either of our organizations, that is bad for both of us. That or, maybe, it is A23’s doing, and they’ll fess up to it. We just raided their HQ and stole some of their documents. It might just be simple revenge, which is fair enough. Although the last time we heard from them, they more-or-less laughed us off as a knock-off of the original CaD. Then we saved the world, and they pretended like they saved the world. So, getting in contact with A23 won’t be easy. But I think I know who I can call… but… I’m not sure they’ll be willing to work with us either. In theory, considering our line of work, their services should be available to us, too, so it’s worth a shot.

I am going to call the Actuaries.

Soon to be insured,
