Summary of Receipt

Big Guy warns against the gifts, mentioning that they’re actually cursed with the thing they want the most (being normal, sleeping well) and yet are unobtainable. He tries to destroy his, to no avail. Then he changed his deepest desire to be to figure out how the gifts operate, and basically - the gifts are indestructible and cannot be re-gifted, can be found by anyone, will change shape while wrapped but not when unwrapped, cannot be rewrapped, and gifts will be given once per day, each better than the last. He warns everyone to look out for Manager’s gift, since apparently that’s pretty serious. Also, he’s pretty sure the gifts are from an Elder.

I found a gift addressed to me. Didn’t need to open it to know exactly what it was and that I won’t be opening it. These are bad gifts. Curses, really. They must be the exact thing we want but can’t have. I doubt an Angel would stoop to such needless meddling in mortal affairs, though this certainly reeks of an Elder. As much as I hate to do it, I need to take New Guy’s gift back. And H.R.’s. If anyone else gets one of these gifts, give them to me, and I’ll destroy them.

Mm. Strike that. They can’t be destroyed. They rematerialize. If I had doubts that this was an Elder’s doing, I don’t have such doubts now. I’m not sure how to best deal with these “gifts.” It seems one gift per day shows up, each addressed to a different employee. Knowing what I believe my gift is, I am deeply concerned with what this gift-giver has in mind for the Manager. I’ve already warned him to stay away from any gifts, but I’m sure he won’t be able to resist once he sees the shape. So, everyone’s on high alert to find the Manager’s gift before he can. Then again, there is the possibility that only the intended recipient can “find” their gift. I need more answers. I believe I know how to get them.

Yes. That worked. I forced my deepest desire to that of the rules of these gifts. After destroying my gift, it reformed into the rules. We can’t trust that these rules are exhaustive or even accurate, but it’s a start.

1. The Gifts cannot be destroyed
2. The Gifts cannot be re-gifted
3. The Gifts can be found by anyone
4. Gifts might change while they are wrapped
5. Once a Gift is opened, it will not change
6. Once a Gift is unwrapped, it cannot be rewrapped
7. You only get one Gift a day
8. Each successive Gift will be better than the last
9. There will be more Gifts
