I’ve found myself absolutely enamored, enraptured, and enchanted by my—well, our—little Downside Chupacabra. It’s really the first time I’ve gotten to see one up close without it being senselessly slaughtered for its pelt or venom glands. And I’ve seen quite a few Midside Chupacabras, a handful of Upside Chupacabras, and dozens of Amaymonian Chupacabras… Though, I have a feeling our Chupacabra is rather… exceptional. At least, to my knowledge of Chupacabras, anyway. I suppose my observations won’t make sense if you don’t have a baseline against which to compare.
So, generally speaking, Chupacabras are Canine Cryptids, and being “man’s best friends,” they tend to linger around the three Otherside regions where humans have been divided up: Infernus, Ester, and the Amaymon. Chupacabras from these places are known for their sturdy, bulky, and thick scales, roughly about the size of a hand or so. They are also known for their varying shades of green, from olive, to moss, to mint, to laurel, to the very popular sage. As you’ve also probably picked up by now, these Chupacabras also have quite impressive venom glands, which they use to break down their food more than for hunting, not too dissimilar to spiders who liquefy their prey.
As for our Chupacabra, I am fairly confident that it cannot be from the Amaymon, Ester, or Infernus. Its scales are practically needle-like, and its coat is much more of a black forest than any common sage. At first, I thought it was only black! Actually, the only thing that even hints that this is a Chupacabra is that its eyes are the usual slit-like yellow lizard variety, and its teeth and tail match those of other Chupacabras.
Seeing as we already know this Chupacabra belongs in the Downside, and it is almost certainly not from Amaymon, which only leaves Mayda, Nightmarch, or Achegloom. I haven’t seen any gills, webbing, or blubber that would suggest Mayda. Nightmarch already has Okuri-inus, so it’d be fairly unheard of for a Chupacabra to hang around there. I suppose it could be from Achegloom, but it certainly seems a bit too… corporeal? Ah—I guess it could also be from the Core of the Downside, the Keris, but only Umbrals are native there.
